Czechia: the employee card (zaměstnanecká karta)
To work in Czechia for more than three months, a Georgian citizen needs an employee card — a combined residence and work permit tied to a specific job. You apply at a Czech embassy.
- The job must be listed in the Czech central vacancy database; its reference number goes on the application form.
- Documents: passport, application form, 2 photos, an employment contract or letter of intent (at least the minimum wage and at least 15 hours a week), proof of qualifications, proof of accommodation and a criminal record extract.
- Foreign documents must be apostilled and officially translated into Czech, and no older than 180 days (except the passport, photos and qualification documents).
- You apply in person at a Czech embassy, by appointment. The embassy in Tbilisi accepts applications under a yearly quota — check its current rules. Participants in government economic migration programmes (e.g. 'Qualified Employee') can submit an employer's declaration instead of some documents.
- Fee: CZK 5,000 at an embassy (CZK 2,500 when applying inside Czechia). Processing: 60 days, up to 90 in complex cases.
- If approved, you receive a 60-day visa, travel to Czechia and collect the card at a Ministry of the Interior office after giving fingerprints. You need travel medical insurance before collecting the visa.
- The card is issued for up to 2 years and can be extended. A change of employer or position must be reported to the Ministry; if you lose your job, you have 90 days to report new employment or apply for another permit.
