Renewing a Georgian passport abroad: three ways
If you have held a biometric passport before, you can renew it from abroad: online, through an authorised representative in Georgia, or at a consulate. Times and fees differ by route.
- Online: if you have had a biometric passport before, you apply online; the passport is ready in 2 working days and sent to the address you give. Fee: GEL 300.
- Through a representative: a person in Georgia with a notarised power of attorney can apply at a Public Service Hall or territorial office. Fee: GEL 230 (10th working day) or GEL 300 (5th working day).
- At a consulate: the passport is ready within 45 days of applying. The Public Service Development Agency lists the fee as USD 50; individual consulates charge in local currency — the Georgian Embassy in Germany, for example, lists EUR 48.79.
- Consular services usually require an appointment (geoconsul.gov.ge) and you must appear in person. Each embassy's page explains how to pay.
- If a still-valid passport was lost, you need a police report; if your surname changed, an apostilled marriage or name-change certificate with a certified translation.
- Adult passports are valid for 10 years.
