Bill would let Georgian casinos host international gambling tournaments
Four Georgian Dream MPs have submitted a legislative package that would add the organisation of international gambling tournaments to what a casino licence allows. A tournament would count as international if its prize fund is guaranteed in advance and at least 70% of players are foreign citizens. The permit would cost GEL 100,000 a year; where the prize fund exceeds GEL 3 million, the organiser would be exempt from the gaming-table fee. Breaching permit conditions would carry a GEL 50,000 fine, and running such a tournament without a permit GEL 150,000.
This is a bill and has not been passed. The report gives no stated reason for the proposal.
