114,000 emigrants in 2025: money is no longer the only reason Georgians leave
Geostat figures show 114,374 people left Georgia in 2025, almost 28% of them aged 20–29. Emigration has halved since its 2023 peak and net migration is positive. Emigrants interviewed by Radio Tavisupleba cite job losses, political pressure and fines alongside money; the EU Asylum Agency recorded over 15,000 asylum applications by Georgian citizens in 2025.
Feature. No comprehensive survey of migration motives has been carried out in years; the reasons come from interviewees' own accounts.
