Eurasianet and Jamestown: an opposition ban would deepen Georgia's divide
Eurasianet notes that the five parties Georgian Dream wants the Constitutional Court to ban won close to 40% of the vote in the 2024 election, which observers widely saw as manipulated. With the courts seen as aligned with the ruling party, a ban is widely expected, and it would shut nearly half of voters out before the 2028 election. An analysis in the Jamestown Foundation's Eurasia Daily Monitor argues that the ban would deepen a society already split along geopolitical and generational lines. It sketches two paths: a Russian-leaning 'managed sovereignty' or a return to a pro-European course.
