Opposition faction proposes raising single parents' income-tax exemption to GEL 15,000 a year
The opposition faction For Georgia has submitted a Tax Code amendment to parliament that would raise the annual income threshold below which single parents pay no personal income tax from GEL 3,000 to GEL 15,000. The initiators say the current threshold averages about GEL 250 a month and, at the 20% tax rate, is worth at most around GEL 600 a year (about GEL 50 a month) — too little to make a real difference to a single parent's disposable income.
This is a bill and has not been passed. For Georgia is an opposition faction (Gakharia's party); the report gives no estimate of the budget cost.
